Mood Board: Leslie

Now that the furniture buying frenzy at my house is over for awhile, I missed putting rooms together. So, I thought, why not do it for my friends? Of course, they have not asked me to do this. And I have no idea if they’ll like what I think they look like in room form. But, I’m giving it a shot.

My first unsuspecting design victim is my dear friend, Leslie.

Here we are in Paris in 2006. She is looking adorable. I am looking well-fed. But anyway… Leslie and I have been friends since college. She is charming, classic, bright (both in brains and in personality), and always up for something fun. And it happens to be her birthday today! ┬áLeslie was also the first visitor to our new nest last fall. Look—Fleeces! Hoodies! Football! Fall, hurry fast!

So, for Leslie’s mood board, I chose a living room. And she just so happens to be wearing the same colors in the Paris picture as I chose for her decor: apple green and navy blue. Navy is so refined and classic. Never out of style, yet never trendy. (Though Sunday’s Emmys red carpet looks might dictate otherwise.) And the apple green is fresh and cheerful and sophisticated.

In the words of En Vogue, now it’s time for a breakdown:

1. Paint: I picked Behr Irish Mist (which we’ve used in our home) It’s a SUPER pale gray, almost white, but it’s a little more modern and thoughtful than simple white. I’d also love to see an accent wall in Benjamin Moore’s Old Navy. I think the green sofa would look great against the dark contrasting wall.

2. The sofa is Ballard Design’s Manchester sofa in Velvet Apple. I liked the modern lines of the top with the feet, but then a bit of traditional curves in the arms. Also, with Leslie’s cats, the velvet would be able to be brushed with a felt fabric brush to get rid of pet hair quickly. And I love the nailhead trim on this tufted chair from Overstock.com. They are both called Manchester—it’s fate!

3. For lighting, I thought a simple, whitewashed chandelier would be an elegant, cottage-y touch. This one is also from Ballard. It would be super cute hung over either end table, off-center. Kind of like this. Also, I just love this reading lamp from CB2. We actually used it in our most recent Publix shoot. See if you can spot it.

4. I thought this rug from Anthropologie was perfect. The gray is kinda navy. Or is the navy kinda gray?

5. The navy chevron pillows would look so sweet on the green sofa with the citron throw from Crate & Barrel. I also loved the lady-like cameo pillow from West Elm, and the pretty bird pillow from Pier 1 would give the cats something to lust after on the chair.

6. I cobbled together a collection of tables. First, the gray spindle table from Urban Outfitters. Very traditional, but moderned-up in gray. The gold coffee table with a mirrored top adds a little elegant flair. And I thought the tree stump table from West Elm was a little quirky, but reminded me of a scratching post, which I know the kitty contingent would appreciate.

7. Some cute Leslie-centric accessories: Rosy’s Kitty Grass, a cute blue glass planter from Ikea. And of course, the hostess with the mostess would always have a bottle of Prosecco chilling and some swanky glasses from Sur La Table.

8. Finally, Leslie has a lovely print from the Memphis in May International Festival that I covet that would totally coordinate with this mood board, but alas, my Googling skills failed me. However, I did come across this darling print from one of my favorite Esty shops, Elloh. It features Holly Golightly and her little kitty, two of Leslie’s favorite things. And, since no room is complete without mirrors, this pair from Ballard (again) would look stellar on the navy wall.

So that’s it! Les, I hope you like it! If you want to go shopping for all these things, you know who to take with ya.

I’ll take an office makeover and sideboard suggestions on July 11th. Also, I’ll need you to buy everything for me. It’s not too much to ask, I’m sure.
