Color of the Year

You start planning a wedding and your blog goes to h-e-double hockeysticks. I’ve come to realize I only have so much time for trolling the internets and our home improvement escapades have somewhat slowed. But alas.

One discovery on today’s internet adventure was Pantone’s 2011 color of the year. Honeysuckle. Which, I was surprised to discover, is not a yellowy-greenish-white hue, but a bright pink.

Hmmm….where have I seen this before??

:

Whaddya know! We have our finger on the pulse of the design community here at the Nest. (Or we just like what we like and sometimes it happens to be “officially” cool.) The fabric above is more accurately called “Peony” and I picked it up here.

The HGTV blog has some photos of “Honeysuckle” in action. Not what I would do, exactly. Lots of color going on. The reason we picked Honeyeony (Honeysuckle + Peony)  it is because it was a nice warm complement to the grey. I do think it looks nice with the turquoise and also green, just maybe in smaller doses.

A question, dear readers? Now that my dining room is pink and purple (a teenage dream!), I’m thinking I have to retool my Christmas decor to coordinate better. The red and green ornament chandelier dangler I whipped up last year is looking woefully out of place. Do you think Christmas decor is best when it coordinates with the home? Or is Christmas stuff just Christmas stuff and should I let it be?

Coordinate. Always coordinate and be merry.

christmas stuff is just christmas stuff and i say let it create a nice little xmas mash-up. part of the reason christmas trees are so merry is because of the clash of old/new, silver/gold, store-bought/hand-made.. let your chandelier hang bright! also, it’s only for a few weeks so no biggie.

So many things to comment on! First, I don’t think any of us would mind if you filled space on the blog with some wedding planning stuff … it’s related to design and nesting, right? Right. So I want to see some pics :)

Second, I totally thought honeysuckle was the same color you thought it was! I was shocked it was pink.

And most importantly, I prefer Christmas decorations to coordinate but know that it’s not totally possible. But maybe you could go with a silvery/snowflakey theme? That would tie in with your exisiting colors and still be festive.

Old fashion I am, but like lots of red and some green for the decorations!
Love to hang the ornaments because each one has a memory of the past – some even the kids made when they were little – all grown with their own families now. My favorite ones are the ones with the grandchildren’s pictures. Lots of fun memories!
    Merry Christmas!
