Party in the USA

Yes, I have managed to combine a favorite pastime, enjoying an adult beverage, with another favorite pastime, Nesting. By the way, I had no idea “pastime” was one word. This is as surprising and embarrassing as when I learned “vacuum” has two Us in it—in COLLEGE.

Anyway, I love taking pictures of the pretty (and not so pretty) drinks I drink, particularly when I travel. So, when I stumbled across coasters at Crate & Barrel that let you put a picture inside them, I knew exactly what I would do. (This is not the exact set I have, but close enough.)

Summer Beer: This is a concoction I discovered at a Theatre Memphis cast party and I have been singing its praises ever since. This shot was taken at the WestWayne Summer Party in 2005. Artwork by the one and only Krista Hogg.

And, before you can even ask, here’s the recipe:

4 cans light domestic beer

1 can frozen pink lemonade concentrate

1 empty frozen pink lemonade concentrate can filled with vodka

Stir, with ice.

Sonoma Wine Bottles: Several years ago, my Atlanta girlfriend network went on a trip to Sonoma. We rented an amazing house right outside the town of Sonoma and had a blast. This was a sliver of our collection of empty soldiers by the trip’s end.

Pabst Blue Ribbon Pyramid: When Taylor and I were co-workers, we spent a Valentine’s Day in a country bar in New York City with our co-worker Brett, ┬ámy friend Leslie, lots of quarters and sad country songs. This was the damage done.

Coronado Margaritas: This was taken at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego on my first trip to see Taylor. Coronado was always one of my very favorite places in SD, which is like picking your favorite episode of The Wire. Even the worst one is better than 99% of everything else.

And here’s how they look on our coffee table. Kudos to Publix for the insane orange roses I’ve been staring at for the entirety of Snowmageddon.

    What a fantastic idea!
Love the coasters – will have to take a trip to Crate & Barrel, since my hobby is photography –
mainly of the grandchildren! Also flowers in the garden.
Thanks again for a wonderful idea!

Love this idea. Such a creative idea!

Also, I used to love having drinks on Coronado when we lived in San Diego (and then a few hours to the east), too!

How did the baby bottles of wine not make the cut?!?! Looks like someone needs another set of coasters for her wedding …

Vicki, these were done pre-Paris. We could do a whole set of these of all the drinks we drank there! Might need to feature the baby bottles, though. Don’t see those everyday!

That Summer Beer, ahhhh. The recipe has become stuff of lore here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Great party beverage!

Just don’t go spelling LOSE (as in Lose a Game) LOOSE. :-) I think the long O trips folks up.
