Friday Five: Mismatched Dining Chairs
My friend Leigh Ann emailed me the other day with a design question. It was the same day Leslie showed up for dinner toting a lamp that she wanted my POV on. Kind of a flattering day in the life of little old me.
Leigh Ann’s question was about dining chairs. She and her hubs are ditching their traditional dining room table for a more casual, rustic table that he refinished. They needed 2 more chairs to add to the mix and Leigh Ann wondered what I thought about the whole non-matching dining chair thing.
“This is a case for Pinterest!” I proclaimed.
So, I sent her a pinboard filled with mismatched dining chairs and another Pinterest addict was born.
But without further ado, here are my top 5 mismatched dining chair pins. (Things I never thought I would say.)

What do you think about breaking up the set and trying a mix of chairs? I remember my friend Jackie had a collection of white chairs with different upholstery in her first apartment. It was very “Friends” and super cute.
I hope your weekend holds lots of promise! We have the kids with us and are planning on a nature hike, a Halloween Party and some experimenting with the new camera. Enjoy, friends!

First: Recently discovered your blog and absolutely adore it.
On to the current topic:
I’m definitely NOT a matchy-matchy person — whether it’s chairs, bedside tables, socks, or whatever. BUT, I dislike the term “mismatched,” because it sounds like someone is trying to match, but misses the mark.
I much prefer “UN-matched” because it sounds deliberate (which, in my case, it always is!)
Just a little nit-picking thought.
Thank you, Miranda! I like your suggestion—maybe “collected” dining room chairs is the way to go!
Why did I think “What a stud” would have my picture in it? Darnit. Love the mismatched chairs idea. Especially “Start with the finish.” Maybe we should’ve done that with our barstools. Anyhow, I’d like to further endorse Pinterest (which I always have to think about how to spell). I dare say it’s Facebook with Pictures, an art director’s dream. Check it our for sure people.
