Leeroy Jenkins
Ever notice how, when you become aware of something for the first time, you suddenly see it everywhere? Like when you liked a boy in high school, you saw his car at every traffic light. Or, when you learn a new word, all of a sudden you realize how often it comes up in conversation.
Well, I had my mind set on finding a white horse for the Moody Glam Room.
And immediately, everywhere I looked…
Freakin’ Horses.
Add this to the fact that Sadie is becoming quite an accomplished equestrienne, and I pretty much made it my mission in life to track one down.
The Jonathan Adler horse, similar to the one in Cam and Mitchell’s apartment above, was pretty sweet, but a bit (way) out of my price range. Web searches yielded a few things, but nothing less than $50 with shipping, and I wasn’t all that interested in paying 50 bucks for it. Also, I didn’t want to order a horse, I wanted to stumble upon one. Make it seem a little less psycho.
We poked around Kudzu Antiques (where we found our China Cabinet) on a mad horse-hunting mission while our farmer’s market booty sat in the car. We found an AWESOME wood-carved horse head, but it was giant and almost $200. Boo hiss. We did pick up something else though….stay tuned.
So, while out and about later on Saturday I thought I’d just swing by good ol’ Homegoods to see what they had. Next to 400 Buddha heads sat this dude.
Twenty bucks. Now that’s more like it.
I got him home and taped the base up with Frog Tape.
I think several frogs lost their lives for this project.
And then I sprayed Leeroy Jenkins* with primer and white semi-gloss spray paint I had on hand. On our way out Saturday night, I said to Taylor, “Just think, this morning we didn’t have a white horse and now we do!” I’m pretty sure the only reason I didn’t get the enthusiastic response I was hoping for had to do with the score of the Florida/Georgia game.
And see that big ol’ vessel/vase? Well, we found that at Kudzu instead of a horse. It’s a little organic, which helps tone down the ridiculousness of those mirrors and Leeroy Jenkins*, the brave steed. I like the way he jumps off the navy wall, which can look a little gray in pictures, depending on the time of day.
He’s pretty fierce, no?
So are you obsessed with finding something as random as Leeroy Jenkins for your home? Spill it.
*The second most used search term that leads people to my blog is… Kermit. Wha? Not DIY. Not paint colors. Not anything that has to do with what this blog is actually about. Kermit. Clearly, it refers to this post. And, as a Muppet lover, I’m totally proud to have friends of Kermit find me through whatever means necessary. So, while mentioning this to a friend on Saturday, he suggested that I use another widely searched term as a bit of a social experiment. He recommended Leeroy Jenkins, of whom I’d had never heard, but 27 million others had. And I think it suits him quite well. Let’s ride, Leeroy.

Sadie will love this!
Like the white against the navy.
Thanks, Elaine! Now I just have to work in a photo of Butters!
And of course this makes me think of “Ridin’ up and down Broadway on my old stud Leeroy (Jenkins)…”
The most-used search term for my blog? After “Hanson?” “Statue of Liberty face.”
Ha. Maybe you should be the Statue of Liberty for Halloween next year. Face your fear…of giant faces.
I love you so much more now after seeing this post title. Even if you didn’t know why it is such a popular search word. Not that I didn’t love you before, just more now
Kudos to the title suggester!
Ha! Thanks, Brenda! It’s amazing what a couple of beers can do for creativity!
I absolutely thought the last pic was from a professional shoot when I first scrolled down (I always look at the last picture first – what does that say about me?). Well done!
Er, second to last.
