Larger than Life
The kids came to see us President’s Day weekend and we took the opportunity to get out of the house and have some fun.
Wow, we’ve all put on some weight since Christmas, huh?
Just kidding! We clearly went to The Greatest Show on Earth!
Two years ago tried to take the kids to the circus, but a snowstorm prevented us from picking them up that weekend. So Taylor and I tried to sell the extra seats on Craigslist, but our buyer tried to pull a fast one and cheat us out of the price we’d agreed on, so that time we ended up with 5 seats for the 2 of us. I’m happy that did not happen again. We did pay TWELVE DOLLARS for cotton candy that came with a “free” hat, but you know, when in Rome…. I think 2 beers were cheaper than the cotton candy.
Then the next day, we headed to the High Museum to check out the Picasso to Warhol exhibit. I thought I’d get all artsy-craftsy stepmom and came up with this idea that the kids would draw their interpretation of the favorite piece of art they saw that day.
Wah-waaaahhhhhhhhhhh. This idea went over like telling Lady Gaga to throw on a sweatshirt and jeans. Taylor and Beck did end up playing along after the fact, however.
The Picasso to Warhol exhibit was good, but no photos allowed. I think we all enjoyed the surprise Kaws exhibition more, however.
I couldn’t get over how vibrant everything was.
Blue was thrilled. (Actually he liked it…my constant photo snapping, not quite so much.)
Taylor imparted a little modern art knowledge.
I dragged camera-shy Sadie to the Howard Finster room, which I love. I really liked this quote. Seems like a good DIY motto.
And I noticed this lucite house for the first time, carved and filled with tiny figurines and beads.
This was a cool piece. It’s several sheets of clear glass stacked in front of one another. Look on the right edge of the blue and you can see the lines the individual panes make. It looks like my white balance is off, but when you look at Blue’s back you realize it’s not.
On another note….
It’s time for Apartment Therapy’s annual blog awards, The Homies. The Nesting Game is nominated for Best Home Design Blog. There’s no way in hell I’m going to win (nor should I, when you see the awesome line up that’s represented there). But, if you’d like to vote for yours truly, just go to The Homies page, and scroll waaaaayyyyy down until you see The Nesting Game. (It’s probably in the 6-10 votes range.) You can vote for more than one blog in this round. If nothing else, you should go check out the list and add some snazzy new blogs to your Reader. And if you DO vote for me, thanks!
