Friday Five: Ikea PS Collection 2012

Oh, Ikea. Ikea is a blessing, truly. But sometimes it just feels so…everywhere.

One time, when my Dad and Stepmom came to visit I took them to Ikea just to check it out since they don’t have one in St. Louis. When we got home, I pointed around the room at all the things that were from there. (Which is the trick, I think. Your room shouldn’t scream “Everything’s from Ikea!”) Anyway, later that summer my Dad let me know that they went to visit my cousin in Spain and she had the exact same bowl we did. I mean, you probably have it too. Doesn’t everyone?

Anyway, Ikea just announced their new PS Collection, which is their more cutting edge design line launched every 3 years. The 2012 collection pulls from Ikea’s days of yore, with updated pieces based on their 60 year design history. Here are my 5 faves from the new collection.

1. Stackable stools. I love mixing in the wood stool with the painted pieces. Also comes in white.

2. Windsor chair. I think this is an awesome update. You could also paint this a bright color. Maybe hot pink host chairs in a dining room?

3. Linen Pillow. I love the color combinations the sheer, layered dots make.

4. Plant table. This modular table system is pretty sweet with the plants built in. It reminds me of the aquarium table my Mom had when I was little.

5. Dot Rug. This would be fun in a playroom or in an ad agency. I would avoid it in a dining room where moving chair legs could get caught in the negative spaces.

Other notables from the photo above? The metal wing chairs are pretty groovy. Could be great on a porch or patio. The tubular sofas?? Can’t quite decide on those. In some photos they look great, in others not so much. And that tall, frilly, ballerina lamp. When I first saw it I thought it was a small desk lamp. Lame. But now I realize that it’s a floor lamp and I think it’s kind of genius.

The PS Collection will hit stores in August. In the meantime, you can check out the whole collection here and read a little bit more about it in this article. And you can see my 5 favorite things at Ikea here.

Have a great weekend! I am heading out to dinner with some lady friends this evening. I have some Teux Deux list items that, by golly, I am crossing off this weekend if it kills me! And I’m already looking forward to Mad Men on Sunday.

Also, I’ve been slack at sharing my Curbly posts with you guys. Here they are in case any strike your fancy.

What to consider when choosing upholstery fabrics.

7 upcycled planter ideas. (A T-rex is one of these.)

A stellar kitchen makeover.

8 fabulous front porches. (Ours is not among them.)

8 small space garden ideas

Toodle-oo!

I think you’ve found the perfect collection to trick out our basement room. On a side note, we can never have a piece of furniture that is dependent on living plants.

A timely article since we are on our way to Ikea to purchase napkins, dishtowels (your fault), and pillows. Hope there will be a side trip to Columbia!
