Nest Tour: Living Room
The Living Room
This room gets amazing light. It’s our “formal” living room, which has fallen out of fashion these days. And it’s not that we had to have one–that’s just how it worked out. I like to read in here and talk on the phone. Taylor plays guitar in here all the time.
The furniture in this room is a mix of pieces Taylor and I had from our families. The sofa is from my grandmother and is approaching 100. I had it recovered in 2008. It is deceptively comfortable.
We’ve painted this room twice. First was Martha Stewart’s Whetstone Gray, but it was way too pink. Then I repainted it Behr’s Silver Drop, which is more of a neutral gray tone. It’s one of those barely-perceptible-to-other-people differences, but it made me feel so much better.
The beach prints over the sofa are my attempt at a DIY Massimo Vitali print. It’s just a stock photo that I printed out in giant resolution and framed in two Ikea frames.
The mirrored end tables were bought off of Craigslist, but are originally from Target. I like the modern lines next to the antique sofa to make it less granny.
Speaking of, we originally had an oriental rug in here but it went the granny route too (and was a little small) so we got a sisal rug that spans the entire room.
You can see we have 2 dining room chairs in the living room (for now). Also in front of the windows we have a skirted table and a modern navy wingback chair.
This little corner has a small white table I bought off of Craigslist for $15 and painted. I also recovered the lampshade with linen, here.

Where did you get the chevron pillows on your sofa? They look like a west elm bedding I love!
The pillows are Safavieh, bought off of eziba.com, which was Overstock’s flash sale site. They do look West Elm-y for sure!
