Thank you!
You are hilarious. And your home is lovely.
Thanks, Patty! (I’m trying to think of something hilarious to say.)
No luck.
just came across your blog through Apt. Therapy. Love the makeover and the colors. I find “The Nesting Game” an interesting title and feel connected to it; I was a licensed interior designer for 25 years, then went back to college to study art. My thesis show was called “Nesting Instinct”. Keep up the good work-you combine good design with a sense of humor, which is refreshing!
Thanks for the comment, Jan. I am glad to have you. The blog name is a play on one of my favorite books as a kid, The Westing Game. It was really just a silly wordplay, but I do think of decorating as a puzzle and a game. Putting the pieces together, having fun with it…playing house! Glad to have you as a reader!
I think this might be my new favorite blog! You are hilarious!! I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, kids driving me crazy, dog barking at nothing and just ran across this and just laughed outloud. Cannot wait to snuggle up with a cup of coffee and dive into this blog!
Oh and the shades are amazing!
Thanks for making my day!
Thanks, Merilee! You made MY day!
I stumbled here through Christine Miller’s FB link, and I love your blog. I worked with you guys back in the Tampa WW days, and I think it’s too cute that you and Taylor are married now! My hubby and I are in the process of renovating our second house, so we’re always up for design inspiration.
Nice to reconnect! Funny how the world works.
Love your home! and the witty blog!!
Hi, I just saw your comment on CentsationalGirl and wandered over to your site and it’s darling! I love your style and the look of effortless comfort. I cannot wait to see more posts!

Thank you, Amy! So glad to have you. What nice things to say!
I am trying to get the plans together for my weekend project. I saw your fireplace and I think that is exactly what I want to do. You stated to scroll down 2/3 way to Tyler’s post for instructions but I am not able to see that even after I signed up. Is there any way you can send me the directions?
Chris, it looks like Apt. Therapy removed a lot of the comments when they re-formatted the site. BOO! Basically, what we did is spread Drywall Compound all over our brick and let it dry. Then Taylor took the belt sander and sanded off the dried compound, revealing some of the original brick. He sanded off more on edges for a realistic time-worn look. We did not seal it with anything, but after a couple weeks, it stopped “shedding”. If you touched it, some would come off on your hands or clothes, but for the most part it was fine.
Good luck!
Taylor says to spread it on pretty thickly, let it dry and use a heavy grit sandpaper to etch back into it. Also, I’d advise to remove nearby furniture and tape off the area with plastic sheeting when you do it because it is DUSTY!
